Our Story
Come aboard Praeceptor, a C&C 35 MKI that was built in the mid 1970s and races out of Bayview Yacht Club! She is one of the first racer cruiser classes built! With her sleek lines and powerful sails, she’s built for speed, and she’s ready to take on all sorts of challenges. Praeceptor is a very active boat, racing the Windsor Wednesday series, the Praeceptor Thursday Race/Cruises (see Praeceptor Thursday page), the Bayview One Design, the Bayview to Mackinaw Race and the DRYA Saturday Regattas along with the occasional Sunday Funday Cruise. The Season usually starts in March with the planning phase where we figure out the race schedule, boat work needed to be done in April, and the launch date for the boat. The real racing season starts in early May when the boat gets launched and the crew is able to get on the boat for some pre-season practice and to shake off the cob webs from a dry winter of no sailing. The real season kicks off the 3rd week of May with the start of the Windsor Wednesday series. The Praeceptor race season lasts from mid-May until the First week of October, typically leaving the slip 3-4 days a week. The typical number of crew for a race is about 7-8 sailors, But why race with only 7 when you can bring your friends along for the ride? On most Thursdays, Praeceptor is loaded down with anywhere from 10-20 guests and crew alike for a great night full of music, racing, and swimming out on the water! Whether you’re looking for a leisurely cruise or a high-stakes race, Praeceptor has room for everyone, and she’s always up for a good time. So, grab your sunblock, a pack of beer, and your sense of adventure, and come join us for a day out on the water that you’ll never forget!

What We Sail and Race on
Praeceptor is a C&C MK1. The C&C 35 MK 1 sailboat is a classic yacht that was first introduced in the late 1960s. This high-performance cruiser/racer was designed by C&C Yachts, a renowned Canadian boatbuilder, and quickly gained a reputation for its excellent handling and seaworthiness. With a length of 35 feet and a beam of 10 feet, the C&C 35 MK 1 boasts a sleek, modern design that’s perfect for racing, yet still provides ample space and comfort for cruising. Its fiberglass hull, deep keel, and powerful sail plan make it a dream to sail in all conditions, while its spacious cockpit and interior make it a comfortable home away from home. Today, the C&C 35 MK 1 remains a popular choice among sailing enthusiasts and is considered a classic design that will never go out of style.
